Payén

Payén (meaning "place where there is copper" in Pehuenche language) or commonly known as Payunia, is a vast, unique volcanic landscape in Mendoza, Argentina. This remote area, very hard to access, is an elevated plateau of over 2.000 meters and is one of the densest volcanic fields on the planet, offering a great variety of landforms. The deep dark volcanic earth is contrasted only by the low vegetation that grows in this harsh Andean environment.

There is an eerie feeling of stillness and isolation in these landscapes, broken only by sporadic human traces. Exploring these landscapes is as a visual and sensorial experience.
